State's Rights versus Slavery
Some modern day historians argue that the Civil War started because the federal government was exceeding its power and violating the tenth amendment. The tenth amendment protects states from excessive federal power. Others argue that slavery was at the root of the issue. Which do you think it is? Explain.
Abolitionists
Many abolitionists like Fredrick Douglas and Harriet Tubman fought to end the institution of slavery during the nineteenth century. If you were an abolitionist during the nineteenth century, what steps would you take to end slavery? Who would you recruit to help you in your cause? Would you be willing to die for your cause? Explain.
Is War ever Justifiable?
